This cartoon in The Economist magazine probably sums up the situation well...
Guns and Christians in the Unites States of America |
Like knives, gun carrying should be a crime. It is in the UK. Such ready access to death and injury sticks that US citizens have is nothing to 'enjoy' or take pride in.
"Waiting to shoot someone?" - Uh oh, i smell a straw man argument.
ReplyDeleteListen, i have had many interactions and discussions with a hell of a lot of American gun owners through the bushcraft and survival community on youtube, and not a single one of them is "waiting" to shoot anybody. Many do have their firearms for protection, but, and don't take my word for it, go and ask them yourself, and they will tell you that they never want to be put into a situation where they would be forced to shoot somebody in defence. But they would be willing do it if it meant the difference between life or death for them and their families.
I personally have a fire extinguisher in my house. Does that mean i am waiting for my house to catch fire? Of course not, the last thing i want is for my house to catch fire, but i still want to have a means of dealing with such a situation should it ever arise. The exact same principle applies to keeping weapons in the home for protection.
